Happy Winter

Dear Prospective Member:

I am delighted that you found us!

PWP is an organization dedicated to the welfare of single parents and their children.  Membership is open to anyone of good moral character and is a single parent.  The way we define “single parent” is as follows:  Anyone who is either natural or adoptive parent of a child or children and is single as a result of divorce, death, or having never been married.  Custody is not an issue.

Each month our group develops a calendar of events for the upcoming month and publishes it in our newsletter.  The newsletter can be mailed to you as well as viewed on our Yahoo Groups web site.  Access to this website is only open to current members.

Over the last year our membership has enjoyed:
Family trips to the Henry Doorley Zoo, Let’s eat Out (LEO) at several local restaurants, Ecomonimcal movie nights, and Garage sales to raise money, just to mention a few.

The idea is that different members “host” an event that they would normally do or would like to do.  They are POC, but are not responsible financially for other members or members’ children attending.  If no one hosts an event that interests you, then you should host one!

You are invited to attend an orientation session (See schedule tab for more details).  You can look at photos of previous events, talk to the membership coordinator, and fill out the necessary paperwork.  This orientation is usually held the first Saturday of each month.  One of the exceptions would be if the first weekend is a “holiday” weekend.

If the weather is bad or “iffy” or you want to make sure the meeting has not changed, call the PWP cell phone at 402-341-5393.

The PWP Omaha chapter is going through a metamorphosis.  Our numbers may be smaller now than they were some years ago, but our members and our friendships are strong.

We currently have about 10 members in the group.  We have single moms and single dads. They do not all attend monthly meetings nor do they all attend every function.  They, like you, have a job, kids, friends… in short, other obligations….  They can go online to the Yahoo Groups website to check the calendar or they get a copy of the newsletter mailed to them.

The downside to this “invisible link” is that new or prospective members do not get a “feel” for the variety of the current members nor do they get any interaction until they end up at a function where the current member attends.

The Yahoo Groups site can be accessed by any current member.  You do not have to have a Yahoo email account to access it, any email address will do.  You do have to coordinate with Debbie to make sure you have access first. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PWPOmahachapter

Hope to see you soon.
